Zedu Weekly Wrap – 22 November 2024
We’ve witnessed a sea change this week…
with the #MedEd and #POCUS community migrating en-masse from X (formerly Twitter) to BlueSky. Following the first migration to Mastodon a couple of years back, this would appear to be another blow to quality #FOAMed (free online medical education) on the Musk platform. What will the future hold? Will inertia mean that X and its users (whatever their political persuasion) keep feeding the feed regardless? Only time will tell.
So you can find our profile on Bluesky – @zedunow.bsky.social – give us a follow and say hello – seems a great opportunity to reconnect 🙂
In the meantime, we’ll continue to spread the goodness on any platform that will have us, confident that if it helps even one person it’s a good thing. What do you think? We’ll continue to use X handles as the basis for any attributions until such time it no longer has the critical mass for wider recognition.
As for the news take a look at:
- The MetroHealth (@MH_EMultrasound) team’s latest – this time on bedside cardiac ultrasound (22 November)
- Suresh Paranjothy (@pocus_today) has written a piece comparing VR vs traditional ultrasound training methods (22 November)
- Jonny Wilkinson (@Wilkinsonjonny) has reelased his review of the Butterfly iQ3 (19 November)
- The latest issue of the POCUS Journal (@POCUSJournal) is out now (16 November)
A lot to get through!
About to make the most of the hot summer weather we’re getting here in Melbourne – does the BlueSky herald something? 🙂
See you on your platform of choice…

Bedside cardiac ultrasound is a game-changer for patient care in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care!

(1/x) The term ‘pre-renal’ acute kidney injury is dated and should stop being taught in medical schools.
Why? The term pre-renal is inextricably linked to the idea that the treatment of pre-renal AKI is IV fluids.
Here’s the paradigm of hemodynamic AKI and why it is helpful.

How does undergrad #ultrasound education effect the development of visual-spatial ability? It would appear very positively!
Do you use #POCUS to teach anatomy absent the impact of clinical demands? What have you learned?

As Cardiac #POCUS becomes more integrated into everyday clinical practice, these new guidelines will help ensure healthcare practitioners across specialties can communicate more clearly about the care they deliver.
